Shaping Science Policy to Improve Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: A CSPC Panel Discussion

When it comes to the research ecosystem, equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) has often been an after thought, if a consideration at all. Given the changing demographics and potential untapped talent, research agencies across North American, such as NSF and NSERC, understand this is no longer acceptable. EDI must be an important consideration when awarding grants and evaluating proposal. This Canadian Science Policy Conference (CSPC) panel titled “Shaping Science Policy to Improve EDI” speaks to ways in which EDI needs to be integrated into the research ecosystem to bring about significant, sustainable change. As a panelist, I present a case study of a single institution and the work done to invite EDI professionals to research decision-making tables.
