Ryerson University’s Soup and Substance Series

Ryerson University logoThe Division of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) at Ryerson University presents the Soup & Substance Series, a series of noon hour moderated panel discussions held on the 7th Floor of Heaslip House at 297 Victoria Street.  While enjoying a warm bowl of soup and refreshments, participants will engage panelists in an open conversation on a range of diversity related topics.  Dr. Denise O’Neil Green, Assistant Vice President/Vice Provost of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), will moderate the series, which will be free and open to the public.

The Winter 2013 schedule is as followed:
Wednesday, January 30th
Arguing the Case for Diversity:  Representatives of four perspectives on diversity (Human Rights, Social Justice, Business and Education) debate on why their rationale for diversity is the most appropriate in today’s context.

Tuesday, March 5th
Accommodation and Accessibility in the Classroom: Hidden Barriers and Beyond.  Personal perspectives of students, faculty and staff address issues, barriers and solutions related to the experience of non-visible disabilities in the classroom.

Wednesday, March 27th
Being Aboriginal@Ryerson: Students, staff and faculty discuss their experiences in the mainstream post-secondary system and envision wholistic and inclusionary strategies for change.

Wednesday, April 24th
Women’s Minds and Bodies: Curricular Diversity in Fashion and Science.  Experts in fashion and science discuss their experiences with diversity in their respective fields.
